Cholera Cemetery, Sandusky, Ohio
History of Cholera Cemetery:
In 1849, a cholera epidemic hit the State of Ohio. Thousands of Men, Women, and Children were infected and died. Many People tried to flee this epidemic, leaving from Cincinnati to Sandusky, Ohio. The problem came when some of these individuals trying to flee the madness, brought the Cholera germ with them. When the epidemic struck the Sandusky, Ohio area, More than half of the town's population fled, hoping to escape the grasp of the deadly disease. Of those that remained, which is estimated to be around 2167 people, 400 of those came down with the Cholera disease and died. These individuals were buried in a large mass grave with no coffins. Rumors have remained that some of these individuals were unconscious and buried alive.

The Cemetery was abandoned because people were afraid of the disease that the dead bodies possessed. The problems then began to mount. The Fence around the Grave deteriorated, Cattle got into the cemetery and disturbed the graves.
Legible tombstones were made, but after a few years were removed. The graves were never opened and the bodies were not removed. The land was plowed and used for hog slaughter, until relatives of the deceased started to object.
In 1909 Children began playing in the cemetery, and building bonfires on the graves, this continued until yet again the relatives protested.
Finally in 1924 the cemetery was finally renovated and a center monument was created for those who lost their lives to the Cholera epidemic.
The cemetery only has three gravestones, all of which represented the Doctors, who came from differnet communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania are represent of these tomb, a few of which also became effected by the Cholera epidemic.
Locals for long lengths of time steered clear of the cemetery, fearing the spirits of those in the mass grave were looking for revenge, and some locals believe, that the vengeful ghosts are still present in the cemetery today.....
G.T.P.R.S. Investigation-June 2007
At first glance the cemetery was well groomed and looked to be very well taken care of. The cemetery as you see it from the road, looked more like a park then a cemetery.
The cemetery had no ere feel to it as you stood outside the gates of the cemetery. This landmark is fenced in, with houses surrounding the whole cemetery.
I had to admit it, at first, I didn't feel like the place had any activity of the Paranormal. It's just seemed to look like a place that would be perfect for a mid afternoon picnic.
I was wrong. After locating and checking out the cemetery during the daylight hours, we returned to the cemetery that night at around 11 pm.
We Believe the Cholera Cemetery may have some wondering souls that may be searching for peace, or unable to let go of their unexpected death. During our Investigation even though the night temperature was 90 degrees, team members reported walking into freezing cold spots, getting poked, touched, and pulled.
We captured about three evps from this investigation, one of a man saying "hello" and two of a woman saying "Hi" and when a member asked who was pulling his arm, she responded by "ME!" These EVPs are currently in the Sandusky Chapter's possession and will be posted as soon as they are cleaned. We also had activity with dowsing rods. We took pictures but were limited to orb action, which we all know that orbs are not a definite source if evidence, since the possibilities of objects becoming orbs, such as dust. We are planning a revisit this location again in the future and we hope to have the same results.....
